What is a map?

I map .. I map .. I’m the map … I’m the map!

Speaking of maps, so remember snippets said above. Yep very true, the words above are the words that are always on the map say when Dora and Boots in children’s films Dora The Explorer strayed away on a trip. The map then shows the pictures to Dora and Boots. There were visible symbols that indicate something like a line and some are shaped like the picture. Then follow Dora and Boots images on the map and guess what? Dora and Boots always make it to the destination.

Recalling what was learned in geography that everything that happens above the surface of the earth and its accompanying phenomena, then a geographers also need to share their knowledge to others without the other person should feel hard to understand. One way to translate the “language of geography” it is through maps.

Maps here are not directly interpreted as an image that can lead people to not stray, but more broadly on the map here is a translation of the phenomenon that occurs in the earth’s surface. I take an example, have friends to see Map of Jakarta? In Jakarta Map is definitely my friends see the symbols and images that sometimes friends do not really understand. Try to compare it too my friends if my friends ever watched a movie about pirates. So I guess according to certain friends more easily understand the meaning of the maps in the pirate movie. That is because the map in a pirate movie presents only symbols which are not detailed nature of the phenomenon that occurs above the surface of the earth that is for example on an island. So the next nor may occur on the Map of Jakarta, but on the Map of Jakarta more translating a space with more detail.

On the map is known there are three symbols that represent intestine map of points, lines, and polygons. Point symbol is the symbol that represents the position of a phenomenon that its exact position on the place. As an example we can see the gas station as a symbol of a point on the map because the location is right at the place. In line symbols can be seen the phenomenon that is easy to know which is like a road. We can see streets in Jakarta on average a straight path, it is not wrong if we see most of Jakarta Map images found on the map are straight lines. And the last of polygons. Polygon is a symbol that represents the area of a region for example housing. How, are more open about the map?

The next question is why the map mentioned above is one part of geography as we know that the other subject areas such as engineering-even using maps as part of their science studies such as civil engineering. The answer is because the map on the above explanation only describes the phenomenon that occurs in urban geography such as petrol stations, roads and housing. As for the other thing that is more “natural” like a river, the height of a mountain, or the area of a forest there has not been translated. That’s the answer ..

Overview of geography (2)

Both my friends, is ready to find out more about what is geography?

After learning that many phenomena that occur on the surface of the earth, how do I know hasilya?

A geographers (people who study the science of geography) have good skills in the field of analysis. A geographers know what factors areinfluence occurrence of such phenomena . For example, why Indonesia is rare hurricane? the answer is any storm moves with their own trajectory. However, in general storm formed in the north of the equator moves toward the West or Northwest, and storms that formed south of the equator moves toward the West or Southwest. This is related to many factors including the direction of rotation of the earth and the resulting corioli style.

Tropical storm moves directly proportional to the Coriolis force of the earth. Because Indonesia is in the equatorial region with low latitude angle, then the price Sinus obtained near zero. This causes any tropical storm is not possible across parts of Indonesia. Climatology can be seen from the data that the region growing tropical storm is above 10o latitude in December to April and above 10o N in September to November.

Indonesia does not like countries that are often the path a storm like America, Japan, Australia, the Philippines or other countries. Indonesia will be affected only indirectly in the form of strong winds, high waves and rain in areas close to where it grew storm.

Well geography learn what is called the phenomenon to be connected from the science of meteorology and climatology for example (as described above).

There is one more characteristic of the science of geography that is always using the map as a medium penjelasnya. For more details, please see my next article.

Overview of geography

Probably there are comrades here who ask, exactly what is meant by geography? so let us see together what it is about geography.

Geography is the science of location as well as similarities and differences (variation) of spatial physical and human phenomena on the earth’s surface. The word geography comes from the Greek ge (“Earth”) and graphein (“write”, or “explain”).

Geography is also the name of historic books on this subject, which is famous for writing Klaudios Ptolemaios Geographia (second century).

Geography is more than cartography, the study of maps. Geography is not just answer what and where on the face of the earth, but also why there and not elsewhere, sometimes referred to as “location in space.” Geography study this, whether caused by nature or humans. Also studied the effect of the differences that occur due to that.

(Wikipedia.com)

Well that was a definition of geography according to wikipedia.com, the definition will then try me explain according to my science degree.

So is the geography is the study of the earth. agree? then we know that the earth has a variety of parts. There armosfer the earth, the earth’s surface, and there are the bottom of the earth. Every part of the earth have each character. Well, geography is studying what happens in the earth’s surface.

Science of geography was always associated with other sciences such as meteorology and climatology (about weather and climate), geology (on the bottom of the earth), geomorphology (the formation of the earth’s surface, and others. It is simple. So the geography has a close connection with other sciences that accompany it.

So geography is the science of what?

Geography is the study of everything above the earth’s surface (as described above) and the phenomena that occur on it.

If you see this phenomenon occurring on the surface of the earth instead of geography means that large? not a phenomenon that occurs above the earth’s surface lot?

Yes like that. Phenomena occurring on the surface of the earth very much. For example: why in Indonesia can not find the snow? why Indonesia is a tropical country? why in Indonesia are rare hurricane? why in Bogor frequent rain? Why have the resources papua ocean views? why snow is only found on Mount Jaya Wijaya? why at a lower height in European countries remains found in the snow? why the tsunami occurred only in the vicinity of Sumatra? why Grand Canyon is only available in America? Niagara Falls why not stay in Jakarta? and a series of questions.

Once we know the phenomenon that occurs in the earth’s surface that many other questions will arise later. Well that could explain why it has to happen is the science of geography.

How my friends had opened a little about what it is geogafi? then we’ll proceed in the next article.

Geographers Greetings!

While drinking water diving

As the saying goes, while diving drinking water, like that’s what I do in this blog today. While studying, while writing, yeah like that’s roughly what I expected with the existence of this blog. Currently I’m located in semester 6 in the geography department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. The hope, with this blog to add treasures of geography to myself in particular and to his friends all general. Geographers Greetings!
